Review

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

I read this book at the recommendation of a friend. I’d seen it around over the years, but never actually felt inspired to pick it up until my friend said something about it. And after reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, all I can think is, why the hell did I wait so long?

The Plot

Seven Husbands tells the story of Evelyn Hugo, an aging Hollywood movie icon, and Monique Grant, an inspiring magazine reporter. Out of nowhere, Evelyn reaches out to the magazine and demands to work with Monique. To Monique’s surprise, the normally reclusive movie star wants to work with her in order to tell her life story.

During their time together, Evelyn shares deeply personal stories starting from her youth all the way up to present day. But two questions linger: why is Evelyn ready to talk now and why did she want to work with Monique specifically?

Was the Book Good/Bad?

For the first time in a long time, I’m giving a book a solid 5 stars. This was so well written and drew me in from the start. The character development is so solid and I felt so much for the characters, even when they were making questionable choices. The storyline really tugged on my heartstrings and I couldn’t put it down once I started.

I really recommend giving this one a try. It’s such a great book and really worth the hype.
