You Should Be So Lucky
I stumbled across this book at my local library and in a queer sports romance display they set up (Hello, Heated Rivalry). While I’m not major fan of baseball, I did pick this one up when I saw a note that said “if you liked Evvie Drake Starts Over, you’ll like this one.” And since I did like that book, I figured I’d give this one a try as well. Without further ado, let’s get into the plot and what I thought of this one.

The Plot
You Should Be So Lucky by Cat Sebastian is a romance set in 1960s between a DL baseball player, Eddie, and a journalist, Mark. Eddie went from being a baseball superstar to being in the worst slump of his career after being shipped off to another team. Mark, who is NOT a sports reporter, is pushed to do a series of puff pieces about the life of Eddie.
Besides being pushed into writing about a topic he cares nothing about, Mark also is grappling with the loss of his long-term partner and the freeing notion of not needing to be someone’s secret. However, as Mark and Eddie grow closer, the challenge of being a closeted queer professional athlete is front and center.
Was the Book Good/Bad?
I really enjoyed this book. It was fun, well-paced and had a solid storyline with characters that were interesting to read. The concerns Mark has for Eddie are very logical, but it was sweet to see how much they care for each other and how those around them react to their growing relationship.
The author navigates the challenges of being a gay man in that era very well, while still making this a fun read. I give it a solid 4/5 stars. If you’re up for a quick romance book, this could be a great one to read.
