Many Bags of Beans

It’s been a minute since I’ve shared what beans I’ve been brewing over here, so I thought it might be nice to do a little round up. There are a few that have been repeat purchases, so I’ll focus on the new ones.

Espresso Blend from Weekenders Coffee

I purchased this bag of beans when I was in Kyoto. Their espresso blend is medium dark and it did make a coffee that had a pretty bittersweet chocolate taste to it. It made a nice cup of coffee overall. I would purchase it again, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to find it.

About the cafe: If you’ve spent anytime on IG in the last year or so, you’ve definitely seen people post videos of Weekenders Coffee. To be fair, it was a super cute spot tucked away in a parking lot. But I did just see that it apparently closed a few weeks ago. It does look like their roastery is still open though.

Step by Onibus Coffee

While I was in Tokyo, a friend of mine took me to Onibus Coffee. It was incredible. The cafe was super cute and the coffee tasted amazing. When I went to buy beans, he told me that these were the ones he always got, so I obviously had to pick up a bag. And I’m so glad I did.

The beans made one of the best cups of coffee I’ve had. It’s great as straight espresso, but I really loved it as a hot Americano as well. It was super smooth and had a really nice flavor to it. If you go to Japan, I highly recommend going to their cafe and buying multiple bags of beans. You won’t regret it!

Brooklynite by Beanmonger Coffee

I’m a big fan of Beanmonger. It’s a very cute cafe in Gowanus that has a cozy vibe inside. I saw that the description of these beans had marshmallow on them, so I was a little leery about it. But honestly, it was really delicious. The sweetness from that marshmallow flavor offset any bitterness from the beans, making a really solid cup of coffee. I had it as cortados and Americanos and both were great. Definitely recommend giving these a try.

Bochesa by Olympia Coffee

These beans were purchased at Olympia Coffee during a trip to Seattle. I’m a big fan of Sidama coffee, and these did not disappoint. They’re a light roast, so they have a slightly lighter, brighter flavor to them. There were solid beans, but I’m not sure I’d buy them again. If you’re in the area though, they’re worth giving a try.

Ursprung by BERGBRAND Kaffeerösterei

A friend of mine bought these beans for me from Nürnberg, Germany. I had never had BERGBRAND coffee before, so I was excited to give these ones a try!

Ursprung did have a very pleasant cacoa, hazelnut, berry and honey flavor to it. It was a really pleasant tasting cup of coffee and made for a great cortado. I would definitely buy these beans again. I feel like I went through this bag very quickly for the amount of coffees I was drinking in a day.

Notes from the Underground by 6 Depot Roastery

As a big Dostoevsky fan, the name of these beans from Six Depot immediately caught my attention. They’re dark roast, so they have a deeper flavor to them and they do live up to the “full body” tasting note in their description. I have really enjoyed these as an ice Americano. It gives the cup of coffee a really nice flavor. I’d definitely buy these again, and am interested in seeing what their other beans are like.

OK, those were the latest beans! It’s been really fun to grab a bag of beans when I travel and have a little memory of my trips while I’m drinking my cups of coffee. I also love how my friends think of me when they’re traveling and pick up a bag of beans for me to try.
